About This Book
The first collection of stories by Hoon Kim, increasingly regarded as the
novelist representing current Korean literature.
This collection includes 2 previously released and acclaimed stories --
"Cremation" (Yi Sang Literature Award) and "My Sister's Menopause" (Hwang
Soon-won Literature Award), and 6 others. Unlike his hit novels such as "Song of Sword" and
"Song of Strings", these stories tell the stories of contemporary times and
people. Title story "Boundless Landscape" is about a textile company executive
who gets diagnosed with terminal cancer and gets himself prepared.
About The Author
The Premier essayist in South Korea, he won the 2004 Isang Literature Prize with
his novel "Cremation," as well as the Dong-in Literature Prize in 2001 for Song
of Sword. Of note, Song of Sword, a book about the life of the famous Korean
general, Yi Sunsin, has been chosen to be the first Korean novel that will be
published as part of the literary series "Du Monde Entier" by the Editions
Gallimard in France. It has already been translated into Japanese and is
currently being translated into German.
Born in 1948 in Seoul, He attended Korea University to study English Literature
but dropped out before graduating and became a reporter and an essayist. His
first novel, Memories of Earthenware with Comb Teeth Pattern, was published in
1995. Since then he has published a number of novels including Song of Sword and
Song of Strings. He is also known for his numerous essays such as Scenery and
Scars, A Bicycle Trip and How Boring It Is To Make a Living.
