The purpose of this book is to present a glimpse of the fantasies that occupied the minds and hearts of Korean children.
Although incomplete in that it does not contain every folktale of the land that has been preserved through the centuries, it is felt that the ones gathered here are the most representative of this area of Korea's folklore and will offer the fairest cross-section.

This book is a compilation of Korean favorite folk tales to adults as well as children. Korean people grow up listening to these folk tales. They give dreams, hopes, wit and wisdom to children.

Author:
Peter Hyun was born and raised in Korea, where he received his early education. Pursuing his studies and writing career in the United States and Europe, he was a regular contributor to the BBC Third Programme. From 1962 until he returned to Korea in 1975, he worked as a children's book editor and writer in New York.
