About This Book
The National Museum of Korea first opened in 1945, the year when the Korean
people won their liberation from the Japanese colonial rule. Since then, the
museum was involuntarily relocated several times. In 2005, the museum finally
opened at its permanent home in Yongsan, Seoul. This book was issued on the
occasion of the reopening of the National Museum of Korea in Yongsan, Seoul on
Oct. 28, 2005. All the objects reproduced in this book are part of the National
Museum of Korea's collections. This book, prepared for the new museum, is based
on new materials and updated scholarship, and consists of readable texts and
