About This Book

Wonderfully illustrated, this popular children's tale is part of a collection of Korean folk tales published with the hope that foreigners, especially children, will gain a better understanding of Korean culture. It's summertime and a granny is about to be eaten by a tiger. She convinces him to wait until the fall so she can harvest her crop of red beans and make him red bean porridge. Harvest comes and she fulfills her promise. While making the porridge, she becomes very sad thinking about how the tiger will eat her after he finishes his bowl of porridge. Her tears are noticed by different things in her household such as a chestnut, turtle, straw mat, mortar and even some dog poo! They promise to help her if she gives them each a bowl of her delicious red bean porriddge. When the tiger shows up expecting a tasty dinner of red bean porridge and Granny, her friends come to her rescue.
