About This Book
It contains the autobiographical story of Kim Geum-sook, who had no choice but to leave Korea. It depicts how Gusun, the main character, has lived and felt in accordance with the trend of Korean modern history, such as the migration phenomenon in the 1970s, the Gwangju democratization movement in 1980, and urban redevelopment in 1990.
Gusooni leaves the countryside where he played peacefully and freely and comes to Seoul, and all his family members have difficult days to make ends meet. Gu-soon, who could do nothing but watch the difficult situation, decided to leave her family to escape from the annoying and frustrating reality. After growing up to be a cartoonist in France a decade later, Gusun describes his story in the full-length comic book "Lechant de mon Pere".
The book was first published in France in 2012, and in September of that year, it was invited to the Montpellier Cartoon Festival NMK and received the "Media Award Selected by Cultural Journalists." The reason why French readers sympathized with this book is that it is a story of Korean society and Koreans viewed through a woman's family history, but it is a story of people living everywhere in the world.
