About This Book
Koreans devised boats to overcome the physical constraints imposed by
the rivers and seas, and to make the most of their given environment.
The development of traditional Korean ships called hanseon coincides
with the history of the Korean people, as ships were a vital part of the
Korean way of life. Therefore, understanding the construction and usage
of Korean ships will provide a unique insight into the Korean way of
life. This book also describes how Korean ancestors lived and struggled
against the elements, and how they overcame the challenge through the
construction and usage of ships. The vivid pictures and the detailed
explanations will help readers understand Korean traditional ships and
their history. Choi Wan-gee, the author of this book, currently teaches
Korean history and educational history as a faculty member of the Social
Studies Education Department at Ewha Womans University.
