About This Book
"Are you drawing a person like me or a cartoon?"
The more I hear about my mother who is a natural storyteller and a great memory, the more I start to draw my first comics at age 40 and the more I think about my mother's story, the more it should be history. I thought that the value of recording the life of an ordinary mother born and raised in the most turbulent period of our history was not ordinary. Although objective history and mother's experience were different, two histories met on either side of the road. The scenes of 100 years of modern and contemporary history of Korea, completed with the mother's 80s, her daughters' 40s, and ten-year years, are surprisingly vivid.
"My mother's story" consists of four parts in total.
In the first part, the family life of the time and the mother of childhood (childhood name 'Nosabashi') are depicted in the backdrop of the Bukchung in Hamkyungdo during the Japanese colonial period.
In the second part, the Nabis married unwanted marriage at the same time, and the process of becoming a refugee until the settlement of the South in the 6/25 war was published.
In Part 3, after the refugees in the Geoje camp, Nathan Etter lives and paints the life of Mother Noshi who struggles to support the family.
In the fourth part, a family history is published in Seoul at the end of the 1970s. The story of a daughter (a writer) who has grown up as a college student proceeds with the story of her mother.
