About This Book
Description
"Ulysses", considered the greatest work of the 20th century, is a record of a day on June 16, 1904. It deals with the wandering of consciousness in daily life of Leopold Bloom, his wife Molly Bloom, and a young artist Stephen Detherus, an ordinary advertising company salesperson and head of a family. Through the three people who represent modern people, it shows the overall appearance of modern civilization.
Joyce used 30,000 words (to be precise, 29,899 words) in "Ulysses", making it the richest vocabulary since Shakespeare. This work, which combines flashy language play, poetic abstraction, humor and despair, contains a rich story with numerous meanings and symbols contained in it, while still holding an unsolved mystery, making it the subject of constant new research.
"Ulysses" is a work that was subjected to sheet metal for 10 years after its publication in the early 1920s because it was "obscene". However, today's "Ulysses" is praised as "the origin of modernism".
